THE FOUNDATION
Manufacturing Standards
Quality at Kinley Metals begins with standards. Every raw material, every process parameter, and every finished product is governed by documented standards that meet or exceed international benchmarks. Our quality assurance system leaves nothing to chance.

ASTM International

All our testing procedures and material specifications align with ASTM International standards, ensuring globally recognized quality benchmarks for ferro alloys.

ISO Methodology

Our quality management systems follow ISO 9001 principles, with documented procedures covering every stage from raw material intake to final product dispatch.

BIS Compliance

Products destined for the Indian market comply with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) specifications, meeting the exact requirements of our largest trading partner.

Customer Specifications

We manufacture to precise customer-defined specifications, adapting our processes to meet unique chemical and physical property requirements per order.

In-House Protocols

Beyond international standards, our internal quality protocols set even tighter tolerances — reflecting our commitment to delivering nothing short of excellence.

Continuous Improvement

We regularly audit and refine our manufacturing standards through statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis, driving incremental quality gains.

Rigorous & Systematic

Testing Procedures

Our testing framework spans the entire production lifecycle — from the moment raw materials arrive at our gate to the time finished products are loaded for shipment. Nothing proceeds without passing its designated quality gate.

01 - RAW MATERIAL INSPECTION

Every incoming shipment of raw materials — quartz, coke, iron ore, and coal — undergoes visual inspection, sizing analysis, and preliminary chemical screening before it enters our production stream. Substandard materials are rejected at the gate.

02 - IN-PROCESS SAMPLING

During smelting, our technicians collect molten metal samples at predetermined intervals from the furnace tap. Each sample is tagged, time-stamped, and rushed to the quality control laboratory for immediate analysis.

 Quality Gate 02

03 - SPECTROMETRIC ANALYSIS

Using optical emission spectrometry (OES), we determine the precise chemical composition of each in-process sample within minutes. This real-time data allows our furnace operators to make immediate adjustments to the melt chemistry.

 Quality Gate 03

04 - FINAL PRODUCT TESTING

After crushing and sizing, finished ferro alloy batches undergo comprehensive testing — full chemical analysis, particle size distribution, surface quality inspection, and mechanical property verification — before receiving release approval.

05 - DOCUMENTAATION & CERTIFICATIONS

Each approved batch receives a certificate of analysis (CoA) detailing its complete chemical composition and physical properties. This document accompanies the shipment and is archived for long-term traceability.

Chemical Analysis

Elemental composition verified against grade limits for every batch of Ferro Silicon produced.

The chemical composition of ferro alloys defines their performance in downstream steelmaking and foundry applications. Our laboratory combines multiple analytical techniques to deliver complete, accurate elemental profiles for every production batch.

GradeSiAl (Max)P (Max)S (Max)C (Max)

FeSi 7575%1.5%0.05%0.05%0.15%

 Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES)

Our primary analytical tool for determining the elemental composition of ferro alloys. The OES spectrometer excites atoms in the sample using an electrical arc, then measures the characteristic wavelengths of light emitted — providing precise percentages of silicon, aluminum, carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, manganese, and trace elements within minutes.

 X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)

XRF spectroscopy provides non-destructive elemental analysis by bombarding samples with X-rays and measuring the fluorescent radiation emitted. This method is particularly valuable for analyzing raw materials and verifying the composition of finished alloys, complementing our OES capabilities with broader elemental coverage.

 Combustion Analysis

Dedicated LECO combustion analyzers determine carbon and sulfur content with exceptional accuracy. The sample is combusted in a pure oxygen atmosphere, and the resulting CO₂ and SO₂ gases are measured using infrared detection cells — achieving detection limits as low as 0.001% for these critical elements.

 Wet Chemistry Methods

For calibration verification and specialized analyses, our laboratory employs classical wet chemistry techniques including titration, gravimetric analysis, and spectrophotometry. These reference methods validate our instrumental results and handle samples that fall outside standard calibration ranges.

BEYOND CHEMISTRY

Mechanical Testing

Chemical composition tells only part of the story. The physical and mechanical properties of our ferro alloys — from particle size to compressive strength — are equally critical to their real-world performance in steelmaking and foundry applications.

Particle Size Distribution

Ferro alloy sizing directly impacts dissolution rates in molten steel. We use standardized sieve analysis with mechanical shakers to determine the exact particle size distribution of every crushed and screened batch. Results are reported as percentage retained on each sieve size according to customer specifications.

Surface Quality Inspection

Visual and microscopic examination of product surfaces identifies cracks, inclusions, oxidation, and other surface defects that could affect product performance. Every finished lot undergoes systematic visual inspection by trained quality control personnel.

Compressive Strength

Our alloys must withstand handling, transport, and the impact of being charged into molten metal baths without excessive fragmentation. Compressive strength testing verifies the mechanical integrity of our products under controlled loading conditions.

END-TO-END VISIBILITY Traceability

Traceability is maintained throughout the manufacturing process of ferro alloy, from raw materials to customer delivery. Every kilogram produced can be traced back through the entire chain, ensuring accountability, enabling root cause analysis, and providing customers confidence in the provenance of materials.

Raw Material Lot

Every incoming raw material shipment is assigned a unique lot number. Supplier certificates, transport documents, and inspection reports are linked to this identifier.

RAW-MATERIAL

Production Batch

As raw materials enter the furnace, a batch number is generated linking raw material lots, furnace parameters, shift logs, and operator records.

PRODUCTION-BATCH

In-Process Sample

Each sample drawn during production receives a unique ID tied to the batch, with sampling time, furnace condition, and lab test results permanently associated.

IN-PROCESS-SAMPLE

Finished Product Lot

After crushing, sizing, and final testing, the material is assigned a finished product lot number consolidating all upstream data into one record.

FINISHED-PRODUCT

Dispatch & Shipment

When product is loaded, the dispatch number links the lot to the customer order, packing list, bill of lading, transport details, and certificate of analysis.

DISPATCH

Customer Delivery Record

The traceability chain extends to customer receipt, acceptance, and feedback, closing the loop on every production order.
